The bill proposes a prohibition on the proclamation of any religion that excludes other religions. Sean’s suspicion of the senator’s self-serving motives is piqued when the senator suggests that the standoff and its violent end amounted to unnecessary tragedy provoked by just such a message of exclusivity.
Sean Brenner knows the preacher as a strong contender for the faith, but he also knows that the senator’s story does not add up. When the D.A. tackles the investigation surrounding the Cass County Jail Standoff, he quickly realizes he is wrestling with forces greater than just the corrupt political machinery he has challenged. And when his pastor does not return to the pulpit, the D.A. is forced to decide whether the burnout he has been fighting is a result of his own call to proclaim the Christians’ message of exclusivity. If Sean does take the pulpit, will he be in violation of the senator’s law? Will the prosecutor suddenly find himself the prosecuted? Can Sean reconcile his oath to uphold the laws of the State he represents with the faith that owns him?

Totally awesome and sobering, holds one's attention so you don't want to put it down! Brings to light what could actually occur, and just how easily, through deceit and disguise. This is a book that every Christian should read. I am looking forward to more books from this author and fully anticipate his name will become very well known in the literary world! Great Job!!
Very good read. Compelling story with a strong message. Great character development too. I love it that the good guys aren't perfect. It makes it easier as a reader to relate.

Downloaded the book over Christmas break. Makes great reading material for a trip to Grandma's house. Reminded me of Left Behind and a John Grisham novel all rolled into one. Loved it! Highly recommend this book and I'm anxious to read the next one Curtis writes.
I read "Before Governors and Kings", by author Curtis Hitt during Christmas. I received a lesson in the Law, written by man and the Word, according to God. I was reminded of the frailty of human life and human nature. I felt that I was given a glimpse of what lies ahead and was encouraged that even in the most difficult of times, we can and must stand firm in our belief of God. Move over Mr. Grisham, there's a new kid on the block!
Really enjoyed reading this book and am very proud of Curtis for his writing. I could see lots of similar characteristics between Curtis and Sean. I feel very confident that Curtis would stand up the same way if confronted like Sean was about his faith. Lots of good lessons to learn from this book. Kudos to you Curtis and I look forward to more books in your future. Congratulations for an excellent job. Of course, anyone who knows you wouldn't expect anything else from you !!!!
