This book is an International Award winning volume, having won an awardin the Readers' Favorite 2016 Book Award Contest for InspirationalPoetry Books.

It is a collection of poetry spanning a variety of themes, with the dominant ones being Love & Romance, Inspirationand Philosophical musings.

Life, Sex & Death representsDavid's first full length collection of emotional contemporary poetrythat celebrates time honored themes and finds new and interesting waysto present them.

His work is uplifting, sensual and at times tries to connect on some base instinct level with the reader.

His style is distinctly his own yet in these pieces David evokes and echoes the playful spirit of his poetic heroes such as Emily Dickinson, EdgarAllan Poe, Leonard Cohen, Cecil Day-Lewis and modern musicalcontemporaries such as Nick Cave, The Kills, Chris Cornell, Katy Perryand even Weird Al Yankovic (yes, really!) to name but a few all feed the elective vision and vibes of his work.

He aims for Life, Sex& Death to be a trilogy and a triumph for modern poetry, accessibleto a large number of age groups and one worthy of taking pride of placeon any bookshelf.

Life Sex Death A Poetry Collection Vol 1 David Ellis Books

I read the first half of "Life, Sex, & Death" while on an airplane. I had planned on sleeping for most of the 4-hour flight; however, I decided to embark upon my journey by reading a few of David's poems. Little did I know that I would keep my iPad open on my lap for the entire trip, reading half of the book that way. On the return flight, I read the other half (while scrunched into the middle seat, I might add). I found it full of words to live by. I had planned on highlighting my favorite poems. I ended up highlighting 25 of them. By the last page, I felt that I knew David Ellis, or at least that part of him that revels in words inspired by such heady topics as life, and sex, and even death. I admire David's willingness to lay his bare emotions and social commentary on the line (literally, in the lines). For example, in "The Price of Greatness Is The Price of Responsibility," he writes: "What causes people to pick up guns, knives and weapons / and claim it is all in the name of peace is beyond me / stirring up a gamut of emotions both physically and mentally / a hypocritical stance to be taken in the extreme." Many poems contain inspiring nuggets of wisdom that seem to float to the surface after gazing at them for a while, like this one in "We're Not Chasing Rainbows Anymore": "And if change were to rear its ugly head / after years passed, marked, full of promises / seize each other and don't look back / for time is the enemy of a bitter man." And humor abounds in "Blowing The Lid Off Of This Pyramid," where he tells us that "...those Ponzi scheme guys / can go stick it up their Sphinx." I highly recommend taking this book with you on a plane, train, or automobile, or curling up in bed with it, or taking turns reading it aloud with a loved one.

Life Sex Death A Poetry Collection Vol 1 David Ellis Books Reviews

An eclectic collection of poems that I enjoyed immensely. There's something for everyone in this book and I highly recommend it.
An eclectic collection of interesting poetry. Give it a shot.
David has a wonderful grasp of the written word! His poems grab you, and really pull you in. I highly recommend this book!
David Ellis' poetry is written with both wisdom and wit. He uses various styles of poetry from free-form to haiku to the fun Acrostalyptica style, which kept me interested in reading more. Even if you are not a huge poetry fan, you will be both inspired and entertained by his words.
I really enjoyed reading through this collection of poetry. I chose to flip around and read here and there. Many of the poems were as though coming from a diary, ruminating and rolling around relationships, as well as daily and lifetime events. Some were very philosophical and each stanza gave an easy-to-carry idea to roll around and ponder. Very accessible and approachable.

For the kindle version I recommend reading these on a larger screen so the line breaks fall properly.
What a trip, whimsical and sober throughout. I found the added dates curious, as I wondered what was happening in Ellis' life at the time. And as he wrote in his introduction, "they should move you emotionally and in the vast majority of cases put a song in your heart and a smile on your face or act as cathartic remedy to sensitive issues in your life."

Ellis, David (2016-01-30). Life, Sex & Death - A Poetry Collection (Vol 1) ( Locations 14-15). . Edition.

I found myself thinking about what occurred in my own life on those dates. Especially the poems written in November 2013 & 14 as I lost two family members to suicide both those years. The last stanza of "Dreaming Of Darkness Retreating November 2014" especially spoke to me as I was dealing with the first anniversary of my brother-in-law's suicide and one of my cousin's committed suicide at the start of the month.

As I said at the beginning of this review - what a trip. I generally avoid rollercoasters as they make me woozy. Reading Life, Sex & Death was a wild ride for me without leaving the comfort of my arm chair. Thanks, David for the ride.
David is a fantastic writer. He invokes raw emotions with is words. He writes about life and death with an expert insight into the psychic of humanity. In his words he speaks of death without fear and with bravery. He doesn't dare death to visit him but give death its respect for the day he will met death.
David's heart is full of passion by his words he loves deeply and without being timid. Through his words he gives 100% not only to the woman of his heart but to nature as well.
David is an excellent poet his words are unique and breathtaking. He weaves his words in an easy flowing movement as if the task of writing wow is a natural gift. I will read David's writing whenever I get a chance. I've bookmarked several of his poems to revisit though it’s hard to pick a favorite I will have to admit I especially fond of ‘The Kitten Of Compassion’. I would love to be the woman these words were written for.
Love, Sex and Death should be in your library if it’s not already.
