I downloaded 'In My Broken Chair' onto my Kindle, and from the first sentence was completely engrossed in this beautiful and powerful short story. It is narrated in a man's voice (astounding in its accuracy considering the writer is a woman) and though brief, manages to capture the emotions and complexities of a father-son relationship. Every word, every gesture in this story paints a picture of the characters, their emotional state, their roles in relation to each other, and the relatable truths their stories reveal. I don't generally read short stories (tending more toward novels and non-fiction), but this one has convinced me to give the format some more attention. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves to read.
